Let's talk about the big giant oil saturated
elephant in the room.
Plastic.
We see it on the news, we see it on the streets, in our own home bins and refrigerators...plastic and how it is polluting our planet. From food wrappers and water bottles to chairs and baby toys, we are literally living in a sea of plastic. Why I am I writing about this when we have all heard this before? I want to be source of information of our critical problem we have with plastic pollution. Here are a few facts to get you up to speed:
* Less than 10% of plastics get recycled
* Plastics can take 400 to 1000 years to decompose
* Around 50% of the plastic used are used only once
* 44% of seabirds and all sea turtles documented have plastic in their bodies or around them "Plastic is becoming the new pearl
* 72 billion gallons of water is required annually to make water bottles, of the ocean." what's more, 24 million gallons of oil is required to produce one billion plastic bottles. -Anthony T. Hincks

Ways to reduce plastic and other waste in your daily life:
- Take your own ceramic or glass coffee mug in to get your caffeine fix. Etsy is a good place to check.
- Learn about your communities recycling programs, i.e. do they recycle textiles, electronics, soft plastics? Is there a local composting facility for your food waste?
- Buy in bulk! When at the grocery store (BYO bags!), buy your baking ingredients, trail mixes and other items in the bulk buy section, less waste. Also consider buying canned beverages or glass, and stay away from plastic bottles! Check out Untrashy for some evironmentally friendly items to carry your veg home.
- Buy locally to reduce the carbon footprint. And if not locally, from fair trade suppliers.
- Sign up for a company that sends out bamboo toothbrushes every 3 months like Booboo toothbrush.
- Compost either with a worm farm or compost bin
